Fogo Island Inn

Editor Rating
Scale of 90-100

Located near a remote fishing village off the island’s northeast coast, this spectacularly sited inn with 29 guest accommodations is housed within a modernist white oblong structure supported by steel stilts above the shoreline rocks. Rooms, many with woodburning stoves, feature tall window-walls overlooking the sea, warm wood floors, baths with walk-in showers and colorful quilts and furnishings crafted on the island. The hotel’s wonderful glass-walled dining room serves excellent regional cuisine. The property also comprises a cozy library, an art gallery and a number of wellness amenities, including a gym, hot tubs and a rooftop sauna. Fishing and boating excursions, guided hikes, whale-watching tours, snowshoeing, ice skating, art workshops, culinary demonstrations, boat-building classes and hosted visits to local sites and craftspeople can be arranged by the exceptionally friendly and hospitable staff.
